Pizza sauce depositing for industrial pizza lines

At a glance

FoodJet can deposit pizza sauce (material) onto pizza bases (product) in controlled patterns on a moving conveyor. Depending on the sauce consistency, base variation, and belt stability, vision support can help detect each base and target the depositing path. Dosing settings and patterns are managed via the FoodJet Control Platform.

Industrial pizza bases are rarely identical. Size variation, random shapes and small shifts on the conveyor make it hard to apply sauce with consistent weight and a clean edge.
FoodJet’s pizza sauce depositor applies pumpable sauces in controlled patterns on moving pizza bases. Depending on product presentation and line conditions, vision support can detect each base and help align the depositing path to the product contour. This supports repeatable coverage and weight targets with less manual adjustment.
Designed for liquid products. Typical applications include tomato sauce, pesto and other liquid toppings (e.g., honey). Not suitable for solid toppings such as shredded cheese or diced vegetables.

Pizza sauce depositor

When depositing pizza sauce, common challenges include variation in base shape and small shifts on the conveyor. FoodJet’s applicator uses vision-guided control to support targeted depositing when the position varies, depending on belt stability and product detection. This reduces reliance on fixed-position timing.

FoodJet’s vision-guided depositor tracks each pizza on the conveyor and adjusts the depositing path in real time. This compensates for positional variation and random shapes, providing consistent coverage and a clean edge without mechanical alignment.

This is validated during testing and FAT for the configured product range and operating window.

How it works

FoodJet designs and builds pizza sauce depositors for industrial pizza lines. The system applies pumpable sauces in defined patterns and supports repeatable coverage and weight targets—depending on material behaviour and line conditions. Typical advantages of pizza sauce depositing in industrial production include:

  • Vision-guided depositing for random shapes and positional variation
  • Repeatable weight control for consistent coverage per pizza (configuration-dependent)
  • Edge-free patterns via software-defined depositing paths
  • Adaptive pattern follows the product contour (no mechanical alignment)
  • High-throughput capability for industrial lines

FoodJet creates pizza sauce depositing machines tailored to your production line, reducing reliance on manual labour and improving consistency. Our unique depositing technology ensures efficiency and precision in every step of your pizza manufacturing process.

How to clean an industrial pizza sauce machine?

FoodJet pizza sauce systems are designed for industrial cleaning routines. Depending on the configuration, the software can support cleaning sequences and purge cycles, and many setups can be cleaned without extensive disassembly. The exact procedure depends on the installed options and your hygiene SOPs.

Advanced vision technology

FoodJet uses a camera system to detect and inspect the pizza bases on most of our sauce applicators, including the automatic pizza depositor. Depending on product variation, vision technology can support detection and targeting on the conveyor. In combination with servo-driven pumps, repeatable weight targets are achievable within the validated operating range—depending on material behaviour and configuration. Depending on belt stability, product variation, and the validated operating range, the equipment can support high-throughput pizza lines with varying base shapes.
